Claim Your Voice, Write Your Story. 2nd Level

Starting Week of May 17th

Now that you’ve completed Part One of our writing program, you may be wondering… okay, what now?

Let me first say how proud I am of what we’ve accomplished together! Building a strong foundation is so important in any writing process, especially when the material is highly personal and full of emotions.

We’ve covered a wide array of topics, including:
Connecting with the soul of your book. What messages are yearning to come forth?
Creating your author identity. How do I lean into my powerful writing voice?
Getting your ideas out of your head and onto the page via a brain dump (or mind map).
Finding the heart of your story. What’s the bigger picture and how does it relate to your dear and valued reader?
Opening up to your intuition through meditation exercises and affirmations.
Practical ways to handle resistance when it inevitably occurs. Stepping into a new way of being will always bring up the thought gremlins!
Writing your hook. What is it and how to make it magnetizing to your readers?
Building an outline. How to give your story a firm foundation and choose the right structure for your messages. Writing a “quick & dirty” outline together, with possible chapter topics and subtopics to be fleshed out later on.
Practical ways to kickstart your writing when you feel stuck or overwhelmed. Nobody said this authoring thing would be a cakewalk!
Writing a love letter to your future self, to be read anytime you need reminders of why you’re doing this in the first place. Powerful stuff!

It would be an honour to guide you through the next stage in your writing journey: putting all the pieces together to start writing your first draft. Aaaah, this part is super exciting!

Here’s the thing I’ve come to understand in my experiences with guiding many aspiring authors: there’s nothing sexy about the motivation and tenacity required to actually sit down and write. It’s by no means glamorous, but is it ever rewarding when you see those words accumulating on the page. And then momentum kicks in and you begin to see the fruits of your labour. It’s magical, and I want that for all of you!

For the next six weeks, here’s a sampling of what our time together would look like:

  • Revisiting your book outline and filling in any gaps. A strong foundation is key!
  • Mapping out your chapters using key categories (more on this, but think post-it notes).
  • Setting daily writing goals and having accountability measures built into our group.
  • Continuing to peel back layers of resistance that can stand between us and the page.
  • Discovering where to start (and keep going). Every journey begins with a single step.
  • Writing from a heart-space vs. a head-space by letting your intuition take the lead.
  • Pitfalls to avoid at this stage of the process. Hint: reworking and editing are time-suckers to be implemented later on. We want to remain in a place of receptivity and creative flow.
  • The importance of pre-celebrations. We’ll build a ritual for stepping into the good feelings that come from writing. It’s a game-changer!
  • Committing the time necessary to make a real dent in your first draft, and being clear on reasonable expectations. Truth is, everyone’s first draft is sh*tty, and that’s okay.

Looking forward to being your guide, mentor, cheerleader and butt-kicker… all in one! Let’s DO this!
